Senior Backend Engineer (Grafana Search & Storage)

Role Overview

Senior Backend Engineer for Grafana Search & Storage at Grafana Labs. You’ll help shape the product roadmap, deliver backend features end-to-end, and ensure critical systems are reliable and performant—while mentoring teammates and collaborating in a fully remote environment.

Responsibilities

• Influence the roadmap and delivery plans and align work with team/team member career objectives.
• Drive projects from ideation to operations, contributing from requirements and brainstorming through shipping.
• Design, build, operate, and maintain core backend systems.
• Own reliability, performance, and availability of services in production.
• Mentor team members and contribute to open-source culture.
• Collaborate effectively with a remote team through strong communication.

Requirements

• Experience writing clean, robust, performant backend software that others can maintain.
• Proven knowledge working with large distributed systems.
• Ability to deliver projects self-driven, from requirements through shipping.
• Customer focus and building with users in mind.
• Pragmatic approach: break down complex problems, deliver MVPs, gather data/feedback, and iterate.
• Strong self-starter with a bias toward action.
• Solid experience with Go.
• Cloud and/or systems engineering experience; ability to operate services.

Nice-to-haves

• Familiarity with on-call, SRE/operations tasks, and infrastructure as code.
• Experience using Grafana and Prometheus in operational roles (including on-call) or via homelabs.
