Role Overview

Join FIGS as a Senior Backend Engineer. You’ll own and evolve backend systems that support enterprise customers and internal sales workflows, focusing on resilience, performance, and scalability.

Responsibilities

Contribute to the design, development, and optimization of backend services
Integrate and evolve applications within AWS and Kubernetes using GitOps workflows (e.g., Flux and Argo)
Participate in architectural discussions with emphasis on scalability, performance, and reliability
Support infrastructure and database management
Provide operational support for backend services
Collaborate with engineers in small cross-functional teams

Requirements

Java and Spring Boot with 5+ years of software development experience
3+ years hands-on experience with AWS, Kubernetes, and Terraform/CDK
Demonstrable experience with Elasticsearch and PostgreSQL
Experience designing and scaling complex enterprise applications
Strong ownership mindset and ability to align technology with business goals
Excellent communication skills and ability to document engineering decisions

Nice-to-haves

Familiarity with e-commerce platforms (e.g., Shopify, Salesforce, Spree, BigCommerce)
Exposure to marketing technologies (e.g., Iterable)
Exposure to modern CI/CD practices/tools for Java applications
Experience with content management systems, especially Contentful
Familiarity with content/marketing and growth-related technologies
