Senior Backend Engineer

Role overview

Join EvenUp as a Senior Backend Engineer to build and evolve scalable backend systems that support growth initiatives. You’ll collaborate cross-functionally with Product, Data, and Engineering, and own complex engineering projects end-to-end—from design through deployment.

Key missions

• Design, develop, and optimize robust backend systems supporting growth and large-scale reliability/performance.
• Partner closely with Product, Data, and Engineering to translate growth and experimentation requirements into scalable solutions.
• Lead the development of backend frameworks, libraries, and systems enabling:
  • experimentation
  • controlled deployments
  • measurable business impact.

Requirements

• Leadership potential with interest in mentoring and establishing best practices.
• Strong modern engineering practices including:
  • test-driven development
  • code reviews
  • deployment pipelines.
• Experience thriving in startup/high-growth environments.
• Excellent problem-solving and cross-functional communication.
• Familiarity with cloud infrastructure and technologies such as AWS, Kubernetes, Docker, and Terraform.
• Proficiency in Python, Go, Java, or C++, with ability to write clean, maintainable production code.
• Extensive backend engineering experience with strong knowledge of distributed systems.
• Proven ability to build scalable, reliable backend systems and APIs in high-performance environments.

Nice-to-haves

• Familiarity with data pipelines, analytics platforms, or experimentation tooling.
• Experience scaling backend systems in rapidly growing startups.
• Exposure to AI/ML systems, especially generative AI or data-intensive applications.
• Experience on growth and/or experimentation-driven teams.
