About the role

Role Overview

Join Dispel as a Senior Backend Engineer working on complex systems across software, infrastructure, networking, and security. You’ll partner with cross-team stakeholders, define requirements, deliver high-performance services, and take ownership of reliability, monitoring, logging, and instrumentation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, scope, and deliver complex end-to-end systems ensuring high performance and low defects
  • Collaborate with cross-team stakeholders to define requirements and deliver against business objectives
  • Identify problems early and drive solutions that meet production needs
  • Own reliability: monitoring, logging, and instrumentation for the systems you build
  • Mentor junior engineers, participate in code reviews, and contribute to technical discussions

Requirements

  • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience delivering complex production systems
  • Deep experience with production-grade APIs and services
  • Strong understanding of system reliability, monitoring, and performance optimization
  • Solid network fundamentals: routing, switching, VPN protocols, DNS, and firewalls
  • Strong experience working with cross-team stakeholders with minimal oversight
  • Ability to communicate clearly (in-person and in team chat)
  • Willingness to accept failure/feedback, learn, and iterate
  • Strong proficiency in one or more: Python, TypeScript, Go
  • Hands-on cloud experience, especially AWS or Azure, including networking constructs (e.g., VPCs, subnets, security groups, private endpoints)
  • Strong understanding of cloud execution environments and how architecture impacts them
  • Strong understanding of network security principles and hardening
  • Experience across layers: application, database, infrastructure, or security
  • Strong understanding of databases, caches, queues, events, and workers
  • Comfortable using coding agents such as GitHub Copilot or Claude Code

Nice to Have

  • Experience across multiple teams or roles (breadth that informs technical judgment)
  • Passion for learning new disciplines and understanding how teammates work
