Senior Backend Engineer (Developer Experience)

Role overview

Join Hostaway as a Senior Backend Engineer (Developer Experience) in the Developer Experience team. You’ll help extract functionality from the monolith into next-generation platform services and developer tooling, improving scalability and engineering excellence.

Key missions

• Build new services and APIs, standardizing service models and practices.
• Contribute to CI/CD approaches and service standardization.
• Design and implement a new authentication/authorization platform in collaboration with experienced engineers.
• Collaborate with platform, security, and product teams to deliver cross-cutting capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Implement reliable and observable services.
• Provide production support through strong monitoring and operational practices.
• Develop and evolve foundational systems while avoiding breakage for downstream consumers.

Requirements

• C1 English level.
• 6+ years of SaaS development experience (production/live product).
• Deep expertise in authentication & authorization concepts, including:
  • OAuth 2.0, OIDC, SAML
  • JWT/session management
  • RBAC/ABAC
  • Multi-tenancy
• Experience with monitoring and supporting production software.
• Strong Go proficiency and a track record of building/operating production Go services.
• Experience designing and developing RESTful web APIs for internal teams.
• Comfort applying Domain-Driven Design (DDD) and working with event-driven/service-oriented architectures.
• Ability to define architectural patterns, reference implementations, or shared libraries adopted by other teams.

Nice to have

• AWS experience.
• PHP knowledge (existing platform runs on it).
• Message queue experience (e.g., AWS SQS).
• Experience migrating foundational systems without breaking downstream consumers (evolution/migration is explicitly valued).
