Senior Backend Engineer (Databases, Loki Query)

Role overview

Join Grafana Labs as a Senior Backend Engineer working on the composable observability platform (Grafana Cloud) and contributing to open-source initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Influence the team’s roadmap and help deliver team and career objectives.
• Design, build, operate, and maintain critical systems with a focus on reliability, performance, and availability.
• Contribute to a strong open-source culture and other projects beyond the immediate team.
• Work iteratively by breaking down complex problems into modular solutions and shipping MVPs, gathering feedback, and improving continuously.

Requirements

• Strong practical ability to analyze and deliver on complex challenges with short feedback loops.
• Self-starter with a bias toward action.
• Customer-focused mindset and passion for intuitive products.
• Solid backend engineering experience with at least one programming language; Go is used (Python/C/C++/Rust also translate).
• Experience writing clean, robust, performant software that is maintainable by others.
• Experience delivering projects end-to-end (from requirements to shipping) in a self-driven way.
• Some experience developing software for the cloud and/or systems engineering.
• Experience with Kubernetes and/or Docker.
• Hands-on familiarity with Grafana and Prometheus (including operational use such as on-call, or homelab/hobby use).
• Exposure to microservices and distributed systems.
• Familiarity with on-call/operations/SRE concepts and Infrastructure as Code.

Nice to have

• Distributed systems depth and eagerness to learn further.
• More operational experience (on-call/SRE) and infrastructure automation experience (IaC).
