Role overview

Join Trellis as a Senior Backend Engineer on the Conversational AI team. You will architect and build backend systems that enable natural, engaging conversations between users and the platform. You’ll lead complex projects, mentor teammates, and help foster a culture of continuous learning and collaboration.

Key missions

• Architect and build intelligent systems for natural, engaging conversational experiences.
• Lead complex projects by defining scope, setting technical direction, and mentoring teammates.
• Own projects end-to-end across the software development lifecycle: planning, development, validation, iteration, and maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Design and deliver production backend systems and APIs.
• Ensure operational excellence through reliable production practices.
• Collaborate cross-functionally and communicate technical decisions clearly.

Requirements

• 5+ years of production software development experience.
• Deep expertise in system architecture and design.
• Proven operational excellence in production environments.
• Production experience with Node.js and TypeScript.
• Strong communication skills, especially in Slack and technical documentation.
• Experience designing RESTful APIs and implementing business logic on top of data stores.
• Cross-functional leadership and collaboration experience.
• Product-minded and capable of making strong technical decisions.

Nice-to-haves / additional signals

• 2+ years in a senior engineer role (explicitly mentioned).
