Senior Backend Engineer - ClickStack

Role Overview

Senior Backend Engineer at ClickHouse, building ClickStack—an open-source observability platform that turns telemetry data into actionable insights (logs, metrics, traces, and session replays) for faster root-cause detection and an excellent developer experience.

What You’ll Do

• Shape the product: Own and build core backend services and infrastructure powering the observability platform.
• Reliable, high-throughput data pipelines: Ensure developers can depend on backend services, APIs, and ingestion/processing systems.
• Scalability at petabyte scale: Design and implement systems to ingest, process, and query petabytes of observability data.
• Community collaboration: Work with open-source contributors and customers to address problems and incorporate feedback into backend architecture and API design.

Who You Are / Requirements

• Backend engineer experienced in building reliable, performant services using TypeScript and Node.js.
• 5+ years of software engineering with a strong backend focus (preference for developer tools or infrastructure).
• Strong TypeScript and Node.js skills; experience with Express, Fastify, or similar.
• Solid knowledge of API design, distributed systems, and data modeling.
• Familiar with containerized environments: Docker and Kubernetes.
• Passion for open source and the developer community; motivated to ship impactful features.

Nice to Have

• Experience with Go (occasional contributions to Go services).
• Experience with ClickHouse and/or PostgreSQL or other analytical/OLTP databases.
• Strong familiarity with observability tooling and OpenTelemetry or metrics/logging infrastructure.
• Experience designing SDKs/client libraries.
• Exposure to Kafka, NATS, or other streaming/message queue and event-driven architectures.
