Role Overview

Senior Backend Engineer at ClickHouse, helping build ClickStack—an observability platform that turns telemetry (logs, metrics, traces, session replays) into actionable insights with a strong focus on developer experience.

What You’ll Do

• Shape the product by owning and building backend services and infrastructure for the observability platform.
• Build reliable, high-throughput data pipelines and APIs used by developers daily.
• Engage with the community by collaborating with open-source contributors and customers, incorporating feedback into backend architecture and API design.
• Tackle technical challenges: design and implement scalable backend systems to ingest, process, and query petabytes of observability data.

What You Bring

• 5+ years of software engineering experience with strong backend focus (preference for developer tools or infrastructure).
• Strong TypeScript and Node.js skills; experience with Express, Fastify, or similar frameworks.
• Solid understanding of API design, distributed systems, and data modeling.
• Experience with Docker and Kubernetes (containerized environments).
• Passion for open source and the developer community.
• Experience creating developer tooling and designing with developers in mind.

Bonus Points

• Experience with ClickHouse, PostgreSQL, or other analytical/OLTP databases.
• Strong views on observability tools and how to improve them.
• Familiarity with OpenTelemetry, logging pipelines, and metrics infrastructure.
• Experience with SDKs / client library design.
• Exposure to Kafka, NATS, streaming, and event-driven architectures.
