Senior Backend Engineer - ClickStack

Role Overview

ClickStack is building an observability platform that helps engineers monitor, debug, and scale production applications using real-time telemetry. As a Senior Backend Engineer, you’ll own core backend services and infrastructure for petabyte-scale ingest, processing, and querying—while prioritizing an excellent developer experience.

What You'll Do

• Shape the product: Build and maintain key backend services and infrastructure powering ClickStack.
• High-throughput pipelines & APIs: Ensure reliable, performant data pipelines and developer-facing APIs.
• Tackle petabyte-scale challenges: Design and implement scalable systems to ingest, process, and query observability data.
• Engage with the community: Work with open-source contributors and customers; incorporate feedback into backend architecture and API design.

• Backend engineer focused on reliable, high-performance services.
• Strong in TypeScript and Node.js, with experience shipping in fast-moving environments.
• Passionate about software development and learning new technologies.

Requirements

• 5+ years of software engineering experience, with a strong backend focus (ideally developer tools or infrastructure).
• Strong TypeScript and Node.js skills; experience with Express, Fastify, or similar frameworks.
• Solid understanding of API design, distributed systems, and data modeling.
• Familiarity with Docker and Kubernetes.
• Passion for open source and building for the developer community.

Nice to Have / Bonus Points

• Experience with Go (occasional contributions to Go services).
• Bonus: ClickHouse, PostgreSQL, or other analytical/OLTP databases.
• Experience/interest in observability infrastructure (e.g., OpenTelemetry, logging pipelines, metrics infrastructure).
• Exposure to message queues/streaming/event-driven systems (Kafka, NATS).
• Experience designing SDKs or client libraries.
