About the role

Role Overview

Join Censys as a Senior Backend Engineer on the Exposure Management team. You will design, build, and extend large-scale, real-time backend services that leverage Censys’ datasets, providing both technical leadership and operational reliability.

Responsibilities

Own backend APIs and gRPC services that integrate data from multiple internal teams and systems
Build and evolve real-time / near-real-time backend services and data pipelines powering Exposure Management and Attack Surface Management products
Provide technical leadership via design reviews, mentorship, and setting a high bar for:
- code quality
- performance
- operational reliability
Maintain automated CI/CD workflows
Collaborate closely with Product and other Engineering teams

Requirements

Comfortable owning backend services end-to-end in production with reliability, observability, and correctness
Distributed systems fundamentals: horizontally scalable, fault-tolerant systems
3+ years experience with Go (Golang)
Experience designing/consuming REST and gRPC APIs in microservice/service-oriented architectures
Strong communication and documentation; can explain complex concepts to technical and non-technical audiences
5+ years of software engineering experience
Deep understanding of how the Internet works (e.g., WHOIS, DNS record types, certificate SANs)
Builds maintainable software; e.g., enforcing test coverage via CI, adding linters, and code complexity checks

Nice-to-haves / Additional signals

Experience with containerized services in Kubernetes
Experience with microservices on GCP, including Pub/Sub (and related tradeoffs)
Strong interest in using AI/LLM tools to improve engineering productivity and product capabilities
