Senior Backend Engineer

Role Overview

Join Censys as a Senior Backend Engineer (full remote). You’ll build scalable backend microservices, design robust APIs, and help evolve the Censys Platform by turning complex requirements into maintainable software.

Key Missions

• Lead backend development for a customer-facing SaaS product by designing, building, and enhancing services that power core functionality.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with product, design, and frontend teams to deliver features that solve real customer problems, integrating with internal and external APIs.
• Own the full development lifecycle by automating build, test, deployment, and monitoring workflows to support an iterative development process.

Responsibilities

• Translate complex requirements into maintainable backend systems.
• Participate in technical discussions and drive data-driven decisions despite ambiguity.
• Improve test coverage and increase code maintainability.
• Apply design patterns and architecture choices (including microservices tradeoffs).

Requirements

• 5+ years building distributed web applications and APIs.
• Strong expertise building backend microservices in Golang.
• Experience with REST and/or gRPC and service-oriented architectures.
• Familiarity with Docker and interest in improving CI/CD deployment processes.
• Experience with containerized services in a Kubernetes-based environment.
• Ability to ensure maintainability (e.g., enforcing test coverage via CI, adding linters, complexity checks).
• Strong communication and documentation skills; can explain complex concepts to engineers and non-engineers.

Nice to Have

• Familiarity with GCP Pub/Sub and microservice-based designs and their tradeoffs.
• Experience with TypeScript/JavaScript; React proficiency is a plus.
