Role overview

Senior Backend Engineer at Blockworks (Full remote). You will design, build, and maintain backend systems powering the research platform and media site, with direct impact on scalability, performance, and reliability.

Key missions

Architect, build, and ship backend systems that scale to millions of requests/day
Design, implement, and optimize APIs for research and media products
Own database design, optimization, and reliability using MySQL/Postgres
Implement caching and performance strategies using Redis (or similar)
Lead backend feature development from planning through production release
Diagnose and resolve scalability, performance, and reliability issues under real-world load

Requirements

Strong, intentional engineering approach that balances speed and rigor
Passion for scalable API services handling large volumes of data
Results-oriented mindset with a focus on high-quality releases and delivery
Proven experience helping engineering teams improve productivity and quality
Solid backend/API engineering skills with holistic systems thinking and edge-case awareness
Experience building fast, reliable API endpoints (e.g., 1M+ requests/day) and applying automated testing, monitoring, and observability
5+ years as a Backend Engineer, focused on backend architecture with TypeScript and Node.js
Proficiency designing/optimizing relational databases (data modeling + query optimization)
Strong coding practices: clean, maintainable, reusable code
Troubleshooting in fast-paced environments; familiarity with DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, and deployment tools
Effective cross-team collaboration
Bachelor’s degree in CS/Engineering or equivalent experience

Nice-to-haves

Experience with NestJS and TypeORM (database access layers)
Experience supporting legacy PHP migrations
Familiarity with AWS and exposure to ML/AI models
Hands-on experience in the crypto space
