Senior Backend Engineer (Alerting)

Role Overview

Join Grafana Labs as a Senior Backend Engineer (Alerting). You’ll enhance alert management by designing, building, operating, and maintaining critical backend services. You’ll collaborate with customers and Grafana Cloud teams, and help mentor/support teammates.

Responsibilities

• Influence the team’s roadmap and align work with personal career goals.
• Deliver new features and iterate based on results.
• Drive projects end-to-end: from ideation to operations once released to customers.
• Design, build, operate, and maintain critical systems with ownership of reliability, performance, and availability.
• Contribute to the open-source culture and collaborate effectively in a remote-first environment.
• Mentor and support other team members.

Requirements

• Ability to deliver projects end-to-end (requirements gathering → ideas → shipping to customers) in a self-driven way.
• Customer-focused mindset and strong product empathy.
• Experience writing clean, robust, performant backend software that others can maintain.
• Solid experience with at least one programming language; Go is used (Python/Java/C++/Rust also translate well).
• Pragmatic approach: break down complex problems, build modular solutions, deliver MVPs, gather feedback/data, and iterate.
• Some experience with cloud-running software or systems engineering.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills in a largely remote setup.
