Senior Backend Engineer (AI Platform)

Role overview

As a Senior Backend Engineer (AI Platform) at Roofr, you will build the backend application foundation that enables AI integration across the product. You’ll design scalable integrations with third-party APIs, create data pipelines for AI systems, and collaborate with engineering teams to establish shared architectural patterns.

Key missions

• Build the application foundations for AI integration (integration models and shared architecture).
• Design and implement reliable, scalable integrations with external services and APIs.
• Build data pipelines to feed Roofr’s AI systems.
• Partner with engineering teams to understand real needs, define shared models/patterns, and ensure the platform supports actual use cases.

Requirements

• Strong backend engineering fundamentals and the ability to ramp on the stack.
• Integration engineering experience, with the ability to create production-grade connectors.
• Practical, production experience shipping AI-powered systems (agents, integrations, or LLM-powered features) at scale.
• Curiosity about AI plus the engineering discipline to build it correctly.
• Ownership mindset and proactive problem solving/improvement.
• Experience building evaluation pipelines for LLM-powered systems (prove quality beyond “it seems to work”).
• Comfort working in an early-stage or high-growth environment.
• Clear communication skills; able to explain technical decisions across teams without excessive jargon.
• Track record building scalable backend systems (architecture-focused).

Nice to have

• PHP/Laravel experience (asset).
• Experience with LLM evaluation tooling.
• Familiarity with AI data pipelines including RAG, embeddings, and vector search.
• Hands-on experience with LLM APIs/agent frameworks (e.g., Anthropic Claude, OpenAI, LangChain).

Seniority / experience

• 5–8 years of backend software development experience.
