Role Overview

Join Roofr as a Senior Backend Engineer (AI Platform). You’ll help define the integration architecture and agent patterns that enable AI across the company’s product. The role focuses on building the application-layer foundations for AI integration and ensuring the platform supports real-world use cases.

Key Missions

• Contribute to the integration architecture and agent patterns for integrating AI into Roofr products.
• Build application-layer foundations for AI integration, including:
  • integration models
  • agent scaffolding
  • shared architecture
• Collaborate with engineering teams to understand requirements, establish shared models, and deliver a platform built for production use cases.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement reliable integrations with third-party services.
• Partner with other engineering teams to translate needs into shared patterns and architectures.
• Build backend systems that are maintainable, scalable, and built with production realities in mind.

Requirements

• 5–8 years of backend software development experience.
• Practical production experience building AI-powered systems (e.g., agents, integrations, or LLM-powered features) at scale.
• Strong ownership mindset and proactive problem-solving.
• Demonstrated ability to build scalable backend architecture.
• Experience in an early-stage / high-growth environment.
• Experience building LLM evaluation pipelines (understanding that “it seems to work” isn’t sufficient) and tooling to validate performance.
• Experience with AI data pipelines, including RAG, embeddings, and vector search.
• Strong integration engineering background for production-grade connectors.
• Hands-on experience with LLM APIs and agent frameworks (e.g., Anthropic Claude, OpenAI, LangChain, or similar).
• Curiosity about AI with engineering discipline to implement it correctly.
• Clear communication across teams and ability to explain technical decisions.

Nice to Have

• PHP/Laravel experience (asset).
