Role Overview

Senior Backend Engineer to design, implement, and optimize backend systems powering mission-critical applications for businesses and consumers.

What You’ll Do

• Infrastructure: Build and maintain scalable, secure, highly available systems; improve reliability, performance, monitoring; support cloud infrastructure and distributed systems.
• Platform: Develop robust APIs, internal platforms, and developer tools; improve productivity, scalability, and operational efficiency.
• Product: Build backend services for customer-facing applications; create scalable solutions that improve user experience and business outcomes.

Core Responsibilities

• Design, architect, and implement scalable backend systems and APIs.
• Ensure reliability, performance, security, and maintainability.
• Collaborate with product managers, designers, and engineers to deliver end-to-end solutions.
• Participate in code reviews, testing, documentation, and engineering best practices.
• Troubleshoot complex production issues and drive continuous improvements.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to technical leadership initiatives.

Requirements

• Proficiency in backend languages such as Java, Go, or Node.js.
• Experience with relational and/or NoSQL databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redis).
• Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure.
• Understanding of REST APIs, microservices, and distributed system architectures.
• Strong problem-solving, debugging, and analytical skills.

Nice to Have

• Docker and Kubernetes.
• Knowledge of CI/CD and DevOps best practices.
• Experience with event-driven architectures and large-scale distributed systems.
• Exposure to high-volume transaction processing.
• Leadership experience via mentoring, ownership, or technical guidance.

Work Environment / Location

• In-office role in New York with regular onsite collaboration.
