About the role

Role Overview

Join Capital Rx as a Senior Backend Developer to help change how prescription benefits are priced and administered. You’ll build scalable backend platforms, APIs, and data-driven processing that supports better patient outcomes.

Responsibilities

Provide technical leadership across team products from design through production
Partner with product managers and designers to refine requirements before implementation
Own and drive large projects through their production lifecycles
Collaborate with operations to ensure correct product operation
Build backend applications using Python on AWS (e.g., AWS Lambda, API Gateway, SQS, ECS)
Perform backend data processing (cleansing, reformatting, parsing, analysis)
Integrate with frontend web applications built in React/TypeScript
Work with other developers to maintain consistent APIs across services
Implement serverless/cloud backend paradigms using Flask/AWS Lambda/ECS
Make strong architectural decisions based on prior experience
Deliver features in an Agile/Scrum environment
Ensure adherence to the company Code of Conduct

Requirements

7+ years of related experience across a broad technical skill set
Strong Python experience (e.g., Flask, SQLAlchemy) and strong TypeScript/frontend familiarity (React)
Advanced PostgreSQL knowledge (CTEs, window functions, views, stored procedures, full-text/geospatial indexing)
Expertise building backend data processing applications
Proficiency with Linux (Bash/Zsh) and tools around it
Experience with microservices and API-based application architecture
Infrastructure-as-code with a security mindset (e.g., AWS, Terraform)
Experience integrating monitoring for deployed services/resources
Strong unit testing practices; knowledge of integration testing (e.g., Playwright)
Git code management; mono-repo experience preferred
Ability to work autonomously in a remote environment with strong written communication

Nice to Have

Prior Pharmacy Benefits Manager (PBM) experience (preferred)

Location / Work Model

Remote for non-local candidates, or Hybrid for candidates based in the NYC area
