Senior Back End Engineer

Role overview

Join Horizon3 as a Senior Back End Engineer to help ship user-facing product launches and improve the platform. You’ll work on backend features spanning ETL, GraphQL, and API development, collaborating closely with frontend engineers to deliver a great user experience.

Key responsibilities

• Develop core product features including ETL and GraphQL for data processing and retrieval
• Design and implement backend APIs (GraphQL) to support interactions across product components
• Build, maintain, and improve ETL pipelines
• Collaborate with frontend team members to present data clearly and improve UX

Requirements

• 7+ years professional software engineering experience using modern OOP/functional languages (e.g., Python, Java, Go, Scala, C++, TypeScript)
• Experience building GraphQL backends
• Strong SQL skills and database architecture experience, including:
  • PostgreSQL (relational)
  • Neo4j (graph)
• Experience building and running applications on cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP
• Container technology experience with Docker and Kubernetes
• Ability to communicate effectively and collaborate with designers, developers, and product managers (Agile environment)
• Strong analytical/problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to produce high-quality work
• Excellent technical documentation skills
• Self-managed and able to conceive/implement solutions independently and as part of a team
• Ability to manage multiple concurrent initiatives and prioritize effectively

• Experience building platform capabilities for internal teams
• Experience managing and maintaining production infrastructure
• Mentoring experience for junior and mid-level engineers
