Senior Applied Scientist

Role Overview

Senior Applied Scientist on the Machine Learning / Computer Vision team. You will build end-to-end ML/CV applications that turn large-scale customer interactions and sensor/camera data into actionable insights across Samsara’s product pillars.

This is a remote role for candidates residing in the United States, with up to 5% travel. No relocation assistance is provided.

Responsibilities

• Build and improve the accuracy of ML / Computer Vision models, including retraining and optimization for Samsara-specific problems.
• Work with petabyte-scale data from Samsara cameras and sensors to develop new models.
• Optimize models for inference on backend services and/or edge devices.
• Partner with firmware and full-stack teams to deploy models for best performance and cost.
• Stay current with industry and academic research and adopt novel techniques where appropriate.
• Collaborate with product teams to translate customer needs into ML/CV solutions.
• Model and reinforce Samsara cultural principles (e.g., Focus on Customer Success, Build for the Long Term, Adopt a Growth Mindset, Be Inclusive, Win as a Team).

Minimum Requirements

• BS or MS in Computer Science (or other technical degree)
• 5+ years of experience as an Applied Scientist, Machine Learning (sentence truncated in the provided text)

Nice-to-haves / Additional Signals

• Experience relevant to video-based safety and other connected-operations use cases (video safety, vehicle telematics, equipment monitoring, workforce apps/site visibility).
