Role overview

Smart Working Solutions is looking for a Senior App & Frontend Developer (AS233) to join a remote-first engineering and analytics team. This is a long-term, strategic role where you will help shape standards, improve architecture, and deliver reliable, scalable data solutions.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain ETL/ELT pipelines to move data into Google BigQuery, ensuring reliability, scalability, and observability.
• Develop and enforce data models and schema standards using best-practice SQL and dimensional modelling (clarity, reuse, performance).
• Own the BigQuery environment: optimize queries, manage costs, enforce governance, and ensure the platform scales with business needs.
• Build and maintain Looker explores, LookML models, and dashboards for business stakeholders.
• Architect end-to-end data solutions across Google Cloud Platform components (Cloud Storage, Dataflow, Pub/Sub, Cloud Functions, Composer).
• Partner with analytics, engineering, and commercial teams to translate requirements into scalable solutions.
• Champion data quality with testing frameworks, monitoring, and alerting.
• Contribute to documentation, coding standards, and ADRs.
• Mentor junior team members and raise engineering rigor.
• Stay current with modern data stack tooling and propose improvements.

Requirements

• 5+ years experience in SQL and data modelling, including dimensional modelling, star schemas, and performance optimization.
• 3+ years in Google BigQuery (production environment).
• 3+ years hands-on with Google Cloud Platform services: Cloud Storage, Dataflow, Pub/Sub, Cloud Functions, Composer.
• 3+ years building/maintaining ETL/ELT pipelines at scale.
• 1+ year working with Looker/LookML to deliver dashboards/data products.
• Experience leading at least one data project end-to-end (scoping through delivery).
• Ability to communicate data limitations, timelines, and trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders.
• Comfortable making pragmatic architecture decisions in a cloud-native data stack.

Nice to have

• Experience with dbt (Data Build Tool) for transformation management and testing.
• Familiarity with orchestration tools such as Apache Airflow (or Cloud Composer).
• Python skills for scripting, validation, or automation.
• Background in retail/ecommerce/fashion and understanding data flow across commercial domains.
