About the role
Role Overview
Senior API Developer (100% Remote, U.S.) at Bright Vision Technologies. You will design, build, and operate large-scale, high-throughput backend services that serve mission-critical workloads, and help architect core platforms other teams build upon.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement large-scale distributed backend systems using high-performance languages (Java/Go/Scala or similar)
- Architect data partitioning, replication, and consistency strategies for each workload
- Build resilient APIs and event-driven services with observability, idempotency, and graceful degradation
- Optimize latency, throughput, and cost via profiling, benchmarking, and load testing
- Lead architecture reviews, technical design discussions, and trade-off analyses
- Implement robust failure-handling patterns (retries, timeouts, circuit breakers, bulkheads, saga workflows)
- Design and operate data stores at scale (relational, key-value, document, search)
- Improve observability using structured logs, metrics, and distributed tracing
- Drive incident response and post-incident learning for critical services
- Mentor mid-level engineers and lead by example in code quality and operational rigor
- Partner with SRE/platform teams to improve reliability and reduce operational toil
- Maintain comprehensive technical documentation (architecture diagrams, ADRs/design decisions, configuration refs, runbooks, procedures)
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s in Computer Science or related discipline
- 6+ years of professional backend engineering experience, with significant distributed systems exposure
- Strong programming skills in Java, Go, Scala, or similar
- Deep understanding of distributed systems concepts (consensus, replication, CAP trade-offs)
- Hands-on experience with high-throughput message systems (Kafka)
- Experience operating systems at scale (capacity planning, performance tuning)
- Strong SQL skills with both relational and NoSQL data stores
- Hands-on experience with major cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
- Strong debugging and root-cause analysis
- Excellent communication, documentation, and mentorship skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience leading complex technical initiatives across multiple teams
- Production experience with Kubernetes-based platforms
- Exposure to service meshes (Istio, Linkerd)
- Familiarity with chaos engineering practices and tools
