Senior Analytics Engineer

Role Overview

As a Senior Analytics Engineer, you will be the technical leader responsible for building and maintaining the transformation and semantic layer that powers enterprise analytics at PTR.

Responsibilities

• Core modeling & semantic layer: Design and build dbt models and Sigma semantic datasets/models using modular, well-engineered software practices (e.g., version control and code review).
• Enterprise shared dimensions: Own conformed/shared dimensions including customer hierarchy, GL hierarchy, time dimensions, fiscal calendars, and territory mappings used across Finance, Commercial, and Fleet/Ops.
• Performance & optimization:
  • Tune Snowflake model and warehouse performance
  • Optimize SQL transformations and manage compute/cost efficiency as data grows
• Testing, quality & observability: Establish and enforce dbt testing and documentation standards; help drive data quality and observability practices.
• Mentorship & standards: Mentor Analytics Engineer I / junior engineers; review code and define modeling patterns and conventions (naming, layering, environment strategy).
• BI partnership: Work with BI analysts to translate dashboard/reporting requirements into robust, reliable datasets for self-service analytics.
• Documentation & versioning: Maintain clear documentation of models and transformation logic using version control and CI/CD.
• Continuous improvement: Identify opportunities to automate manual work, reduce technical debt, and improve scalability and reliability.

Requirements

• Strong technical ownership of dbt transformations and semantic layer modeling
• Expertise building governed, reusable analytics datasets used by BI stakeholders
• Proven ability to optimize Snowflake and SQL transformations for performance/cost
• Experience defining and enforcing standards for modeling, testing, documentation, and data quality

Nice-to-Haves

• Familiarity with Sigma semantic modeling/analytics workflows
• Experience mentoring engineers and establishing best practices across an analytics platform

Location / Work Setup

• Onsite in Fort Wayne, IN (relocation or local candidates prioritized)
