About the role

Role Overview

Join Abacus as a Senior AI Engineer to architect, build, and implement AI platforms. You will provide technical leadership, mentor other developers, and help drive the deployment of state-of-the-art AI models and systems.

Key Missions

Architect, build, and implement AI platforms in collaboration with cross-functional teams
Provide technical leadership across multiple teams and coach them toward future success
Deploy advanced AI models and systems that directly impact products and services
Participate in architectural discussions and represent Abacus in customer-facing technical conversations

Responsibilities

Lead end-to-end model/system development: research & prototyping → deployment → monitoring
Drive scalable, production-grade solutions that support real customers
Support development best practices including testing, code review, and deployment
Mentor/coaching and influence outcomes through technical discussions

Requirements

3+ years ML/AI engineering experience (academia ML/AI research background considered)
6+ years software development experience at some point in your career
Solid understanding of adjacent functions (product/project/client delivery/operations)
2+ years with Databricks and Databricks stack technologies, including Databricks Mosaic AI Gateway
Strong coding/software engineering fundamentals; familiarity with testing, code review, CI/CD/deployment best practices
Proven ability to drive end-to-end development and model/system monitoring
Strong knowledge of GenAI and language modeling technologies (e.g., fine-tuning/pretraining, evaluation benchmarks)
Experience with RAG, embedding/generative techniques, and agentic workflows (orchestration, workflow management, observability/debugging)
Experience designing scalable distributed systems for large data processing workloads (10s–100s of TB)
Track record leading projects/teams toward production-grade systems
Knowledge of Cloud Architecture, AI Architecture, agentic systems, MPP/data+AI compute frameworks, security, and MCP/API-based services
Python and TensorFlow/PyTorch proficiency
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant experience
Knowledge of design/QA/test automation and Agile methodologies

Nice to Have

Exposure to healthcare data and FHIR
Experience with Snowflake
