About the role

Role Overview

Senior Accountant responsible for scaling Taulia’s Finance function through ownership of core corporate accounting and end-to-end payroll operations. The role is highly visible and focused on multi-state payroll compliance and expanding expertise across payroll, labor compliance, tax nexus, and international payroll.

Responsibilities

Payroll (US, Canada, Australia, Saudi Arabia)

  • Manage routine end-to-end payroll processing for salaried employees across US, Canada, Australia, and Saudi Arabia with high precision and confidentiality.
  • For US payroll: lead multi-state relocation compliance including:
    • SUTA registrations
    • Local tax withholdings
    • Updated state-specific payroll rules as employees move
  • For US payroll: coordinate PFML calculations, short-term disability top-ups, and fractional-day pay adjustments while maintaining FLSA exempt status.
  • For non-US payroll: execute/understand local social charges and taxation.
  • Partner with HR and external payroll/legal compliance advisors to track local changes and update policies.
  • Act as a responsive point of contact for employee inquiries related to payroll, deductions, and tax withholding.

Core Accounting & Financial Reporting

  • Prepare multi-currency journal entries for payroll/compensation, income statement fluxes, and balance sheet variance analyses.
  • Support accurate and timely month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closes.
  • Perform balance sheet reconciliations, investigate errors, and make necessary corrections; escalate unresolved reconciling items.
  • Support annual external and internal audits by preparing audit schedules and documentation.
  • Develop procedures and best practices; identify process/control improvements and opportunities to use AI for efficiency.
  • Stay current on US GAAP and IFRS for proper accounting treatment.
  • Own GL mapping for payroll, ensuring accurate departmental cost allocation, intercompany cross-charges, and tax liability tracking.
  • Maintain process documentation and SOPs for accounting and payroll tasks.
  • Cross-train to ensure team coverage across accounting areas.
  • Support ad hoc financial analyses and special projects.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of general accounting experience (preferably in SaaS or fintech).
  • Strong interest and aptitude to master end-to-end multi-state payroll operations, state tax nexus, and statutory leave mechanics.
  • Solid knowledge of US GAAP/IFRS, month-end close processes, internal controls, and balance sheet reconciliations.

Preferred

  • Combination of Big 4 public accounting and industry experience.
