About the role

Role Overview

The Senior Accountant supports accurate accounting for assigned general ledger areas, including Health Ministry (HM) and Market Record to Report (R2R) shared services. The role emphasizes problem solving in healthcare financial operations, strong GAAP/regulatory knowledge, and the ability to produce reliable financial reporting and analytics.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and analyze general ledger accounts, including reconciliations and support for financial statements.
  • Support audit readiness for internal and external audits, including Uniform Guidance / Single Audit and other HM/RHM audit requirements.
  • Track and help implement agreed-upon audit recommendations for areas of responsibility.
  • Assist with Form 990 and other tax returns, including community benefit reporting support.
  • Prepare/assist with sales & use tax, personal property tax, escheatment, government surveys, and related reporting.
  • Complete inter-company billing and cash transfers; reconcile inter-company balances with system office and other entities.
  • Identify opportunities to optimize processes and streamline accounting workflows for accuracy and efficiency.
  • Perform special projects, financial analysis, and research.
  • Prepare monthly journal entries for the PeopleSoft G/L (or current GL system) and ensure timely, accurate support for workpapers.
  • Support year-end reporting packages and prepare audit work papers as assigned.
  • Conduct ad-hoc analysis and create detailed summaries (including graphical trend presentations) to inform leadership decisions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, or Finance (or equivalent combination of education and/or experience; long tenure in healthcare accounting and/or HFMA certifications may substitute).
  • 3–5 years of experience.
  • Working knowledge of US GAAP and experience with financial analysis and research.

Nice-to-Haves

  • Familiarity with healthcare financial operations and healthcare-specific regulatory/payor pressures.
  • Experience with PeopleSoft or similar general ledger systems.
