About the role
Role Overview
The Senior Accountant is a key member of the Finance team and a trusted partner to the Controller. In this fully remote environment, you will ensure the organization’s financial integrity by owning the month-end and year-end close processes, producing reporting, supporting audits, and maintaining GAAP/nonprofit compliance.
Responsibilities
- Perform and review monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes
- Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules
- Maintain the general ledger in accordance with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards
- Assist with financial statements, reporting packages, and annual budgets
- Monitor budget-to-actual results and investigate variances
- Support annual external audits (schedules, documentation)
- Ensure compliance with internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures
- Support accounting process improvements and system implementations
- Guide and mentor junior accounting staff
- Serve as backup for Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable as needed
- Collaborate cross-functionally with internal departments on financial matters
- Support specialized accounting areas including:
- Foundation accounting
- Affiliate/intercompany reconciliations
- Royalty accounting
- Sales & use tax and VAT reporting (where applicable)
Requirements
- 5–8+ years of progressive accounting experience
- Full-cycle accounting experience (month-end and year-end close)
- Experience preparing financial statements and supporting external audits
- Advanced knowledge of GAAP
- Sales & use tax experience
- Hands-on Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable experience
- Advanced Microsoft Excel (PivotTables and formulas)
- ERP experience (e.g., Sage Intacct, NetSuite, Microsoft Dynamics GP, or similar)
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Comfortable working independently while collaborating cross-departmentally in a remote setup
Preferred Qualifications
- Nonprofit accounting experience
- Foundation/fund/royalty/affiliate accounting experience
- VAT experience
- CPA or CPA candidate
- Experience supporting organizations with annual budgets > $15M
- Experience with ERP implementations or system conversions
- Proactive, solutions-oriented, technology-savvy mindset
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (required)
- Master’s degree (preferred)
