Security Engineer

Role overview

As a Security Engineer at Walker & Dunlop, you will help advance and mature the company’s information security program. You will implement, manage, and optimize security technologies across corporate systems, cloud environments, networks, and endpoints—working with technology teams and business stakeholders to strengthen controls and security operations.

Responsibilities

  • Build partnerships with business and technology stakeholders to support secure product and service delivery.
  • Act as a security subject matter expert across multiple security domains and provide cybersecurity best-practice guidance.
  • Evaluate security tools and recommend improvements, replacements, or consolidation.
  • Implement, configure, maintain, and optimize security technologies to ensure effectiveness and business value.
  • Integrate security controls and solutions across the enterprise in collaboration with engineering teams.
  • Educate and influence stakeholders on cybersecurity risks, controls, and best practices.
  • Monitor, investigate, and respond to security events, alerts, and incidents.
  • Maintain an inventory of digital assets and support automation of asset management.
  • Partner with leadership (VP of Information Risk and Cyber Assessments) to communicate risks and recommendations.
  • Support secure cloud adoption by implementing security controls across enterprise environments.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in cybersecurity administration, engineering, or security operations.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Hands-on experience implementing and supporting enterprise security technologies, including:
    • EDR/XDR
    • DLP
    • Identity and access management
    • Vulnerability management
    • Cloud security and attack surface management
  • Experience with security platforms such as Microsoft Defender XDR, Google SecOps, ReliaQuest GreyMatter, Netskope, or Box Shield (or comparable).
  • Experience with PowerShell and automating security operations.
  • Strong understanding of networking, operating systems, enterprise infrastructure, and cloud computing.
  • Familiarity with cloud security services and governance tools in Microsoft Azure and AWS.
  • Experience with vulnerability scanning, penetration testing, and security monitoring.
  • Familiarity with security frameworks/standards including NIST CSF, CIS Controls, and ISO 27001.

Nice-to-have

  • Industry certifications such as CISSP, CCSP, Azure Security Engineer (AZ-500), or AWS Certified Security – Specialty.
