About the role
Role overview
Voltus is expanding its Security team to build the technical foundation for secure, mission-critical software. The Security Engineer will split time between hands-on security engineering/operations and governance, risk, and compliance (GRC) work.
Responsibilities
Engineering and Operations (≈60%)
- Build detections and security signal pipelines in Datadog.
- Serve as the subject matter expert for AWS cloud and on-prem infrastructure security.
- Define and implement AWS and on-prem security monitoring and best-practices strategy.
- Lead technical response during security incidents, including investigation and remediation.
- Improve Terraform modules and other Infrastructure as Code (IaC) to meet security best practices.
- Develop and implement a vulnerability monitoring strategy and integrate it into CI/CD.
- Build security automation using Python, scripting, and APIs.
- Partner with Infrastructure to enhance AWS security engineering, including IAM, KMS, and network segmentation.
Governance, Risk, and Compliance (≈40%)
- Operate SOC 2 Type 2 evidence collection and support audit response.
- Drive ISO 27001 implementation (risk assessments and control mapping).
- Ensure infrastructure compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Run vendor and subprocessor risk reviews.
- Respond to customer security questionnaires and external inquiries.
- Mentor and enable team members to improve security posture.
Requirements
- 4–7 years of security engineering experience (ideally SaaS or remote-first).
- Software development experience with Go or Python.
- Proven AWS security experience: IAM, KMS, VPC, CloudTrail, GuardDuty.
- Direct experience supporting a SOC 2 Type 2 audit cycle.
- Familiarity with compliance requirements such as ISO 27001, HIPAA, and GDPR.
- Experience with Terraform and container tooling such as Docker.
- Proficiency with monitoring/observability tools such as Datadog or Prometheus.
Nice-to-haves
- Security certifications (e.g., CISSP, AWS Security Specialty, GIAC).
- Strong risk awareness and ability to decide between fast vs. slow actions.
Compensation & benefits
- Base pay: $140,000–$160,000 USD annually (commensurate with experience)
- Bonus: 10% paid annually
