SDET/QA Engineer

Role Overview

As an SDET/QA Engineer, you will establish and evolve Curology’s test automation approach, test strategy, and quality standards from the ground up. You’ll design scalable, maintainable frameworks and collaborate across engineering, product, data, and QA to deliver reliable software with confidence.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement scalable, maintainable test automation frameworks for:
  • Web applications
  • APIs
  • Distributed systems
• Define and execute comprehensive test strategies and plans, including:
  • Integration testing
  • End-to-end testing across distributed system architecture
• Identify high-risk areas, especially those involving sensitive or regulated data, and ensure appropriate coverage.
• Integrate automated tests into CI/CD to improve deployment reliability, speed, and confidence.
• Partner with engineering on testability, observability, and maintainability.
• Translate requirements into testable scenarios and acceptance criteria with product/data/business stakeholders; coordinate with offshore QA on scope, prioritization, and validation.
• Establish and track quality metrics to drive continuous improvement and reduce production defects.
• Provide technical leadership and guidance on quality engineering best practices.

Requirements

• 5–7+ years in software engineering or SDET roles with production-grade test automation.
• Strong programming skills in TypeScript/JavaScript, Python, or similar.
• Experience testing distributed systems and event-driven architectures.
• Hands-on experience with CI/CD integration.
• Experience working with systems undergoing migration or decomposition.
• Demonstrated AI fluency using enterprise AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini) to accelerate engineering work (test design, code review, debugging, documentation).
• Strong judgment in AI-assisted work: ability to critically review AI outputs before acting and knowing where human oversight is required.

Preferred / Nice to Have

• Preferred:
  • Contract testing with Pact (or similar)
  • Experience in HIPAA-regulated environments with PHI handling
  • Familiarity with saga patterns, Step Functions, or orchestration testing
  • Service-oriented / microservices architecture experience
  • Experience coordinating manual QA, including offshore teams
• Nice to have:
  • AWS-native tooling (EventBridge, SQS, Lambda, Step Functions)
  • Testing e-commerce and subscription billing/payment integrations
  • Observability tooling as part of a quality strategy
  • Feature-flag testing (e.g., LaunchDarkly)
  • Additional experience with mobile testing (iOS/Android)
