SDET III

Role Overview

Topstep is hiring an SDET III (Software Development Engineer in Test) to improve the quality, reliability, and performance of the company’s web, API, mobile, and third-party integrated applications. You’ll partner with Engineering, Product, and QA across the software development lifecycle to expand test automation, reduce quality risks, and support release readiness.

Responsibilities

• Ensure quality for web, API, mobile, and third-party integrated applications.
• Design, develop, maintain, and improve automated test coverage across UI, API, and mobile.
• Support testing activities including manual, smoke, regression, end-to-end, integration, and production validation.
• Create and maintain test cases, test plans, test data, automation suites, and QA documentation.
• Review requirements and acceptance criteria to identify gaps, risks, dependencies, and testability concerns.
• Validate new features and defect fixes prior to release; provide QA release sign-off.
• Identify, reproduce, prioritize, and communicate defects to stakeholders.
• Perform production validation and assist with post-release incident investigations.
• Validate third-party integrations (e.g., payments, billing, authentication, trading, account management).
• Document QA processes and release validation steps in Notion.
• Help define and follow modern QA practices (e.g., risk-based testing, shift-left testing, test automation, CI/CD-supported validation).
• Participate in sprint planning/refinement, technical discussions, and release-readiness reviews.
• Support onboarding, mentoring, and knowledge sharing as QA scales.

Requirements

• 6+ years in software quality assurance, test automation, or an SDET role.
• Experience testing web applications, REST APIs, and mobile applications.
• Hands-on experience building and maintaining automated test frameworks.
• Experience with UI, API, integration, regression, and end-to-end testing.
• Understanding of Agile and CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience using API testing tools and validating request/response data.
• Ability to write clear, reproducible defect reports and communicate technical issues.
• Experience reviewing requirements for completeness and testability.
• Familiarity with source control, pull requests, build pipelines, logs, and monitoring tools.
• Strong analytical/troubleshooting and risk assessment skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaborate across teams.
• Strong written and verbal communication.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience testing iOS and Android.
• Experience with mobile automation frameworks.
• Experience with modern web automation tools: Playwright, Cypress, or Selenium.
• Experience with API automation/tools such as Postman and REST Assured.
• Experience integrating automated tests into CI/CD.
• Domain experience with payments, subscriptions, billing, financial/trading/transaction-based systems.
