About the role
Role Overview
PhoenixTeam is seeking a Scrum Master II to facilitate Agile delivery for cross-functional teams working on federal government contracting initiatives, including IT modernization and mortgage technology. This is a 100% remote role supporting distributed teams in regulated, documentation-heavy environments.
Responsibilities
- Facilitate Scrum ceremonies: sprint planning, daily standups, sprint reviews, retrospectives, and backlog refinement.
- Coach team members and stakeholders on Agile values, Scrum practices, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Partner with Product Owners to improve backlog readiness, story clarity, acceptance criteria quality, and prioritization discipline.
- Identify, remove, or escalate impediments impacting sprint goals, release timelines, productivity, or solution quality.
- Track delivery health using Agile metrics such as velocity, burndown, cycle time, sprint goal achievement, and capacity.
- Support distributed teams using tools such as Jira, Confluence, Azure DevOps (or similar).
- Coordinate dependencies, risks, blockers, and stakeholder expectations across business and technical workstreams.
- Drive continuous improvement aligned with federal contracting expectations.
Required Qualifications
- 4+ years experience as a Scrum Master / Agile delivery lead (or comparable), supporting software/platform teams.
- Experience facilitating Agile ceremonies and coaching cross-functional teams in Scrum.
- Experience supporting IT modernization, application delivery, systems integration, digital transformation, or technology implementations.
- Working knowledge of Jira, Confluence, Azure DevOps (or equivalents).
- Strong facilitation, communication, conflict resolution, and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to organize work, track risks, and maintain momentum across remote teams.
- Experience operating in structured, accountable environments consistent with federal contracting.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Agile certifications such as CSM, PSM I, SAFe Scrum Master, or similar.
- Experience with federal government contracts or regulated public-sector delivery.
- Familiarity with mortgage technology and lending/servicing/document workflows or compliance-sensitive processes.
- Exposure to DevSecOps, release planning, quality engineering, or scaled Agile environments.
What Success Looks Like (First 90 Days)
- Establish a consistent Scrum cadence improving focus, accountability, and sprint execution.
- Improve backlog readiness and sprint planning quality with the Product Owner and team leads.
- Build trust by resolving impediments early and providing practical coaching.
