About the role
Role Overview
The Scrum Master is a servant leader responsible for enabling high-performing Agile teams delivering government-facing software products. You ensure Agile/Scrum principles are applied effectively in a regulated public-sector environment while coaching teams, removing impediments, and partnering with Product Owners, Engineering, UX, and government stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
Agile Delivery & Team Enablement
- Facilitate Scrum events: Sprint Planning, Daily Standups, Sprint Reviews, and Retrospectives (remote environment)
- Coach one or more cross-functional teams on Agile and Scrum best practices
- Promote self-organizing, accountable, outcome-focused teams
- Ensure transparency using Agile tools, metrics, and reporting
Release Management
- Partner with Product Owners and Client Support to maintain a weekly release cadence and define release contents
- Collaborate with development and management to support smooth, efficient releases
Stakeholder Collaboration
- Support backlog refinement, prioritization, and clear acceptance criteria with Product Owners
- Work with management stakeholders to align on sprint reviews, planning, and delivery expectations
- Bridge communication between technical teams and non-technical public-sector partners
Impediment Removal & Continuous Improvement
- Identify, escalate, and remove blockers impacting delivery, quality, or team health
- Facilitate retrospectives and drive actionable improvement plans
- Foster psychological safety, learning, and continuous improvement
Governance, Compliance & Quality
- Support compliance with government standards, security policies, and accessibility guidelines (e.g., Section 508, security reviews, documentation requirements)
- Align Agile practices with organizational governance and delivery frameworks
- Promote predictable delivery while maintaining agility in regulated environments
Requirements
- 3+ years of experience as a Scrum Master or Agile Coach
- Strong knowledge of Scrum, Agile, and Lean principles
- Experience supporting software development teams (engineering, UX, QA, product)
- Experience with Azure DevOps boards, queries, and backlog management
- Comfortable working with remote/distributed teams
- Strong facilitation, communication, and conflict-resolution skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in GovTech, public sector, or highly regulated industries
- Scrum Master certification (CSM, PSM I/II, or equivalent)
- Understanding of accessibility/security/compliance requirements for government projects
- Experience supporting multiple teams or scaled Agile environments
- Familiarity with Azure DevOps Pipelines and Libraries
