About the role

Role Overview

Scaling.com is hiring a Ph.D.-level Research Data Scientist to own the research side of its evolving identity as a research and advising firm. You will analyze a unique, constantly evolving dataset of 500+ “Scalers” applying a shared framework toward a 10x scaling goal, and “reverse-engineer the formula” by identifying patterns and relationships that predict exceptional scaling.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze the Scaler dataset (strategy call recordings, revenue data, portal data) to identify meaningful patterns, themes, trends, and correlations.
  • Study highest performers to extract what differentiates them, including:
    • the moves they make
    • what they cut
    • how their teams reconstitute
    • how they raise their performance “floor”
  • Publish research outputs on two tracks:
    • Monthly white papers for the Scaler community (core themes, top-performer behaviors, measurable outcomes from the last 30 days)
    • Peer-reviewed academic articles on a quarterly cadence, building a legitimate research line
  • Lead data capture and improve dataset quality over time by defining what additional data should be collected.
  • Use AI tools fluently to accelerate theme detection and analysis across hundreds of engagements (they use Avoma).
  • Translate findings into compelling writing and present live to the Scaler community at events.
  • Build a long-term research engine and intellectual property base for Scaling.com.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. candidate, recent Ph.D. graduate, postdoc, or early-career professor in business, psychology, organizational behavior, entrepreneurship, or a related quantitative field.
  • Strong quantitative and qualitative research ability: design studies, run analyses, and defend methodology.
  • Experience with (or a clear path to) peer-reviewed academic publishing in business or social science journals.
  • Exceptional writing across contexts (rigorous for academic journals; clear for founder-facing white papers).
  • Fluency with AI-assisted research and analysis tools, and motivation to work with a messy, living dataset.
  • Genuine obsession with what drives business scaling and ability to work within Scaling.com’s framework and language.
  • Self-managed independence: set your own agenda and bring findings forward.

Nice-to-haves / Fit Signals

  • Read and connected with The Science of Scaling.
  • Comfort operating as a research lab of one, with potential to grow into a team you lead.

Benefits

  • Paid Time Off (vacation, sick leave, company holidays)
  • Remote work flexibility for U.S.-based candidates (work from your chosen location with autonomy and support)
