About the role

Role overview

As a Risk Strategist, Card Network Compliance on Stripe’s Industry Expansion Strategy team, you will ensure Stripe’s merchant portfolio stays compliant with Visa, Mastercard, and other card network rules as the business scales globally. This is an active, cross-functional role focused on preventing issues early and building scalable compliance processes.

Responsibilities

  • Own merchant risk management oversight for Payment Facilitators, Marketplaces, and other Third-Party Agents/Servicers, including:
    • Preparing merchants for card network registration
    • Managing network reporting requirements
    • Conducting periodic reviews and user remediations
  • Partner with internal teams to design compliance strategies that support global expansion while limiting downstream risk
  • Embed with first-line teams (especially Sales and Product) to train sellers to apply judgment to catch gaps and position Risk as a business enabler
  • Build and improve processes to optimize efficiency and automation, including handling partner non-compliance escalations and monitoring portfolio compliance
  • Conduct research and analysis to assess market position and develop/prioritize long-term strategic plans
  • Lead special projects and ad hoc analyses as products, risks, and opportunities evolve

Requirements

  • 5+ years of professional experience in Payments or FinTech, including card network compliance
  • Familiarity with banking and money movement regulations, including:
    • KYC / KYB
    • AML
    • OFAC compliance
    • Credit and fraud risk
  • Experience overseeing the design, execution, and delivery of highly strategic programs
  • Ability to take complex issues and translate them into actionable next steps, drive accountability, and meet deadlines
  • Data-driven problem solving, with the ability to distill ambiguous regulatory issues into clear guidance for stakeholders and users
