Role overview
Senior Java Developer (REMOTE) for a high-priority initiative focused on building and modernizing enterprise backend services for a retail/digital commerce ecosystem.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain enterprise-grade backend applications using Java and Spring Boot
- Build and enhance microservices for scalable distributed platform architectures
- Develop, integrate, and maintain RESTful APIs for customer-facing and internal enterprise applications
- Collaborate with engineering, product, platform, and business stakeholders to turn requirements into technical solutions
- Participate in architecture discussions; contribute to backend best practices for code quality, maintainability, and scalability
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues across development, QA, staging, and production environments
- Support modernization work (legacy platform decomposition and improved system integration)
- Contribute to code reviews and technical documentation across the software development lifecycle
- Ensure solutions are designed for performance, resiliency, observability, and long-term maintainability
Required qualifications
- 8+ years of backend or software engineering experience
- Strong hands-on Java experience in modern enterprise development
- Deep expertise with Spring Boot
- Proven ability to design and build microservices architectures
- Strong experience building and consuming REST APIs
- Solid understanding of object-oriented programming and backend best practices
- Experience supporting scalable enterprise systems in production
- Ability to communicate technical concepts and work effectively cross-functionally
Preferred qualifications
- Experience in retail/ecommerce/digital commerce or other high-volume consumer platforms
- Experience integrating backend systems with Content Management Systems (CMS)
- Exposure to enterprise platform modernization initiatives
- Experience with distributed systems, service integrations, and complex backend workflows
- Familiarity with services such as inventory, order management, fulfillment, catalog, and customer/commerce platforms

- Remote role with preference for candidates in the Eastern or Central Time Zone; preference for Dallas-Fort Worth / Plano area
