Role Overview
Senior Java Software Engineer (Search) for a remote engineering team. The role is a hands-on, highly technical position focused on building and optimizing large-scale search systems, including migrating from Apache Solr to a modern search platform.
Responsibilities
- Design and build scalable Java-based backend systems
- Develop and optimize Elasticsearch and Apache Solr search solutions
- Lead search platform migration and modernization efforts
- Build and maintain REST APIs and microservices
- Improve search performance, including indexing and relevance tuning
- Troubleshoot complex production/performance issues
- Collaborate with engineering, product, and DevOps on system design
Requirements
- 8+ years of backend development experience
- Strong hands-on experience with Java (8/11/17+)
- Deep expertise in Elasticsearch and Apache Solr
- Experience with:
- Search indexing and query optimization
- Relevance/performance tuning
- Schema and cluster management
- Spring Boot and microservices architecture
- Building RESTful APIs
Nice to Have
- Kafka or other messaging systems
- Docker / Kubernetes
- Cloud experience (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
- SQL and NoSQL databases
