REMOTE Senior Java Software Engineer

Role Overview

Senior Java Software Engineer (Search) for a remote engineering team. The role is a hands-on, highly technical position focused on building and optimizing large-scale search systems, including migrating from Apache Solr to a modern search platform.

Responsibilities

• Design and build scalable Java-based backend systems
• Develop and optimize Elasticsearch and Apache Solr search solutions
• Lead search platform migration and modernization efforts
• Build and maintain REST APIs and microservices
• Improve search performance, including indexing and relevance tuning
• Troubleshoot complex production/performance issues
• Collaborate with engineering, product, and DevOps on system design

Requirements

• 8+ years of backend development experience
• Strong hands-on experience with Java (8/11/17+)
• Deep expertise in Elasticsearch and Apache Solr
• Experience with:
  • Search indexing and query optimization
  • Relevance/performance tuning
  • Schema and cluster management
  • Spring Boot and microservices architecture
  • Building RESTful APIs

Nice to Have

• Kafka or other messaging systems
• Docker / Kubernetes
• Cloud experience (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
• SQL and NoSQL databases
