Role overview

Remote JavaScript/React Engineer (Software Engineering Evaluator) at Turing. You will collaborate with researchers to create and refine datasets used to train and benchmark large language models, focusing on high-quality code examples and systems-level correctness.

What you’ll do (typical day)

Curate code examples and provide precise solutions for software engineering tasks
Correct and evaluate AI-generated code for efficiency, scalability, and reliability
Emphasize systems-level code and performance-critical applications, including infrastructure
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve AI-driven coding solutions against industry benchmarks
Build agentic verification that can assess code quality and identify error patterns
Hypothesize and evaluate capabilities across the software engineering lifecycle (e.g., prototyping, API design, production, monitoring, maintenance)
Design and implement verification mechanisms to automatically validate solutions to coding tasks

Required skills

3+ years of software engineering experience
Strong expertise in systems programming, infrastructure, or backend development
Experience building and deploying scalable, production-grade software
Deep understanding of software architecture, design, debugging, and code quality/review assessment
Excellent written and oral communication skills to produce clear, structured evaluation rationales

Nice to have / focus areas

Systems-level proficiency across multiple languages, including Python, C/C++, Rust, Go, Java, and JavaScript (React)
Experience shipping high-impact products in fast-moving engineering environments

Engagement details

Contractor engagement (no medical/paid leave)
Duration: 1 month, with potential extensions based on performance and fit
Commitment: flexible, minimum 10 hrs/week, up to 40 hrs/week
Location: must be based in the United States
