Remote, Front-End UI Developer / Accessibility Expert (State clients Exp highly Preferred)

Role Overview

Remote UI Developer / Accessibility Expert to support a digital modernization effort. You will focus exclusively on front-end user interface work and accessibility (not backend or full-stack development).

Responsibilities

• Frontend engineering: Build clean, maintainable semantic HTML5 and responsive CSS/SASS that follow modern web standards.
• Framework integration: Integrate UI assets into Angular or MVC .NET environments.
• Accessibility architecture: Implement accessibility from the ground up using WCAG standards, including ARIA labels/landmarks, color contrast, keyboard navigation, and focus management.
• Collaborative development: Work with the lead UX Architect to scale accessibility standards across enterprise initiatives (including chatbot interfaces and global state footers).
• Clear communication: Explain frontend engineering concepts and WCAG requirements to technical teams and agency stakeholders.

Requirements

• Semantic Markup: Strong expertise in semantic HTML5 and modern responsive CSS/SASS.
• Accessibility mastery: Proven experience implementing WCAG (including WCAG 2.2 Level AA), handling ARIA, and resolving issues related to color contrast and screen-reader compatibility.
• Accessibility testing: Experience testing with NVDA, JAWS, and VoiceOver.
• Accessibility auditing tools: Use tools such as axe DevTools and WAVE.
• Framework experience: Integrate front-end assets into Angular or MVC .NET.
• Communication: Ability to clearly articulate UI/accessibility standards and technical requirements.

Nice to Have

• Experience with design systems or wrapper components.
• Experience using/extending the U.S. Web Design System (USWDS).
• Foundational UX principles and design workflows.
