Remote Cloud Data Engineer

Role Overview

Remote Cloud Data Engineer (Senior) working on a large-scale data modernization initiative to improve service delivery for U.S. Veterans. The role focuses on designing and optimizing secure, high-performance data access across complex enterprise systems in hybrid and multi-cloud environments.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and optimize distributed query solutions using Starburst Enterprise Platform (SEP) and Trino
• Enable secure, governed access to data across multiple sources, including cloud platforms and data lakes
• Implement and enhance data federation, performance tuning, and query optimization strategies
• Support IAM and data governance requirements
• Develop and maintain backend services, APIs, and platform components
• Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, observability, and platform reliability initiatives
• Collaborate with product, UX, security, and infrastructure teams
• Troubleshoot distributed and cloud-native performance issues

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, or related field (Master’s preferred)
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance
• Hands-on experience with Starburst Enterprise Platform (SEP) or significant experience with Trino/Presto
• 8+ years with modern data platforms such as Snowflake, Databricks, or Denodo
• Strong SQL skills and distributed query performance optimization experience
• Experience integrating data across cloud and on-premises environments
• Knowledge of authentication/authorization and data security best practices
• Experience with CI/CD, Docker/Kubernetes, and infrastructure automation
• Azure experience strongly preferred
• Strong communication and collaboration skills
