About the role
Role Overview
You will work on the Refueling & Remote Handling engineering group responsible for fuel and reactor module handling. This includes designing and developing remotely operated/controlled robotic and tele-operated tooling, along with inspection equipment and supporting control systems used during reactor servicing and refueling outages.
Responsibilities
- Develop solutions to complex, multi-disciplinary engineering problems using creativity and innovation.
- Collaborate across NuScale to develop reactor servicing tools, inspection equipment, and control systems.
- Prepare and review engineering deliverables including:
- reports, system descriptions, specifications
- drawings and calculations
- design documents focused on tooling and inspection systems
- Work with:
- Nuclear Steam Supply System (NSSS) Component Design to ensure tooling interface features meet functional/performance requirements
- Civil/Structural to ensure interfaces between tooling systems and site buildings meet requirements
- Systems Engineering and Operations to define work sequences and handling plans as part of an integrated tool design scheme
- Help develop and maintain engineering standards and criteria.
- Plan and organize complex engineering efforts; interpret scope and requirements and develop alternative methods to meet project goals.
- Support procurement activities related to equipment design, fabrication, and testing.
- Self-manage workload and deadlines and assist other teams with technical problem-solving.
Requirements
- Strong problem-solving skills for complex/sensitive engineering situations; gather/review information and use independent judgment.
- Ability to produce, read, and interpret complex engineering documentation and communicate effectively (oral and written).
- Demonstrate creativity/innovation to improve equipment efficiency and reliability and overcome technical challenges.
- Competence in planning/organizing work and managing timelines.
- Adaptability to changing priorities, frequent interruptions, and unexpected events.
- Willingness to be taught additional knowledge required for designing remote/automated equipment in a nuclear environment.
Nice-to-haves
- (Implied) Experience collaborating across engineering and operations groups on integrated tooling/inspection systems for nuclear refueling environments.
