Rapid User Researcher

Role overview

Notion is seeking a Rapid (Rolling) User Researcher to deliver fast, high-signal insights that improve Notion product experiences across Product, Design, and Engineering (EPD)—including AI-powered workflows (e.g., custom agents and chat).

This is a tactical, high-velocity role where you run lightweight studies on a steady cadence, identify what’s not working, and help teams turn feedback into concrete product changes.

What you’ll achieve

• End-to-end tactical research: Scope, design, and execute quick-turn research across the product lifecycle; deliver clear recommendations that drive decisions.
• Rolling usability testing: Plan and moderate rapid usability tests on prototypes and in-product flows; identify friction/comprehension gaps/failure points; recommend fixes and prototype them with AI.
• Concept testing: Evaluate early ideas (storyboards, low/high-fidelity prototypes, new IA) to understand desirability, comprehension, and expected workflows.
• Research pipeline ownership: Maintain an always-on research motion by handling intake/prioritization, study cadence, participant recruitment, and consistent output formats.
• Communication: Share crisp, actionable recommendations (severity, confidence, next steps) via async write-ups, clips, or working sessions.
• Business-minded impact: Connect findings to outcomes and follow through with teams so improvements land.

Skills you’ll need

• Research craft: Independently run usability and/or concept tests (scoping → protocol → moderation → synthesis → readout). Keep scope tight while maintaining rigor.
• AI fluency: Translate research concepts (e.g., trust, usefulness, tone, safety, clarity) into observable behaviors and research questions; use AI to speed prep/synthesis with quality and traceability.
• Pragmatism + speed: Prioritize in fast-moving environments, handle ambiguity, and deliver quality research quickly with transparent limitations.
• Systems thinking: Quickly understand complex product/experience contexts (role text cuts off after this point).

Location / schedule

• Can be based in San Francisco or New York City.
• Works from the office on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays (Anchor Days) with an in-person expectation those days.
