Rapid User Researcher

Role Overview

Rapid User Researcher (Rolling UXR) at Notion (OperatorVC). You’ll deliver fast, high-signal user research that improves product experiences across Product, Design, and Engineering (EPD)—including AI-powered workflows such as custom agents and chat. The role uses a many small studies model, combining end-to-end research execution with building the program that makes research intake and recruitment scalable.

What You’ll Do

• End-to-end tactical research: Scope, design, and execute quick-turn studies across the product lifecycle with clear recommendations.
• Rolling usability testing: Plan and moderate rapid usability tests on prototypes and in-product flows; identify friction, comprehension gaps, and failure points; recommend fixes and prototype them with AI.
• Concept testing: Evaluate early ideas (e.g., storyboards, low/high-fidelity prototypes, new information architecture) to assess desirability, comprehension, and expected workflows before heavy build investment.
• Research pipeline ownership: Manage intake and prioritization, maintain study cadence, recruit participants, and deliver consistent outputs so teams can act quickly.
• Communication: Provide crisp, actionable recommendation readouts (e.g., severity, confidence, next steps) via async write-ups, clips, or working sessions.
• Business-minded impact: Tie insights to outcomes (why it matters, what to change, what to watch) and follow through to help ensure improvements land.

Skills & Requirements

• Research craft: Independently run usability and/or concept tests end-to-end (scoping → protocol → moderation → synthesis → readout) while keeping scope tight and maintaining rigor.
• AI fluency: Comfortably and thoughtfully use AI to speed prep/synthesis while preserving quality and evidence traceability.
• Pragmatism + speed: Strong prioritization in fast-moving environments; can work through ambiguity and deliver high-quality research quickly with transparent limitations.
• Systems thinking: Ability to quickly understand complex contexts (role text is truncated after this point).

Nice-to-Haves

• Comfort context-switching across many teams while running lightweight studies on a steady cadence.

Location / Schedule

• Based in San Francisco or New York City.
• Work from the office on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays (Anchor Days); those days are important for collaborating in person.
