About the role
Role Overview
Notion is seeking a Rolling User Researcher (Rolling UXR) to deliver fast, high-signal research insights that improve product experiences across Product, Design, and Engineering (EPD)—including AI-powered workflows like custom agents and chat.
This is a tactical, high-velocity role focused on running many small studies on a steady cadence, translating feedback into concrete product changes.
What You’ll Achieve
- End-to-end tactical research: Scope, design, and execute quick-turn studies across the product lifecycle with actionable recommendations.
- Rolling usability testing: Plan and moderate rapid usability tests on prototypes and in-product flows; identify friction, comprehension gaps, and failure points; recommend and prototype practical fixes (including with AI).
- Concept testing: Evaluate early ideas (storyboards, low/high-fidelity prototypes, new information architecture) to assess desirability, comprehension, and expected workflows before heavy build investment.
- Research pipeline ownership: Own intake/prioritization, manage study cadence, recruit participants, and maintain consistent output formats so teams can act quickly.
- Communication & impact: Provide crisp, audience-appropriate readouts (async write-ups, clips, or working sessions) including severity/confidence and next steps; connect findings to outcomes and follow through to ensure improvements land.
Skills You’ll Need
- Research craft: Independently run usability and/or concept tests end-to-end (scoping → protocol → moderation → synthesis → readout) while keeping scope tight without losing rigor.
- AI fluency: Hands-on curiosity about AI products; translate concepts (e.g., trust, usefulness, tone, safety, clarity) into observable behaviors and research questions.
- Pragmatism + speed: Ability to prioritize in fast-moving environments, operate with ambiguity, and deliver quality quickly with transparent limitations.
- Systems thinking: Ability to quickly understand complex product contexts (role text cuts off here).
Location / Work Pattern
- Based in San Francisco or New York City.
- In-office Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays (Anchor Days); expectation to work alongside the team those days.
