Role Overview

SpryPoint is standing up a dedicated QA automation function and is looking for a Quality Assurance Engineering Manager to build and lead QA automation from the ground up. This is a hands-on player-coach role (~50/50): you’ll lead the team and strategy while also writing automated tests and reviewing code.

Responsibilities

Define and own the quality engineering strategy and roadmap across products
Stay hands-on: write automated tests, build framework components, and review code
Select QA automation tooling/framework and set standards for squads
Integrate automated testing into CI/CD pipelines; partner with DevOps for stable, repeatable deployments
Establish quality gates (what blocks merge vs. what blocks release) aligned with engineering leadership and risk
Drive a risk-based testing approach focused on protecting clients
Push tests down the stack (API before UI), reduce flaky tests, and enable squads so QA isn’t dependent on one person
Hire, coach, and grow a team of automation engineers
During the first 90 days: assess current QA practices and AI testing practices, confirm prerequisites (environments, CI/CD, critical journeys), and stand up a proof-of-concept suite for highest-risk flows
