About the role
Role: Quality Assurance Engineer (Engineering-First QA)
You’ll approach quality as an engineering problem—building automation to proactively detect bugs and data quality issues at scale, then writing or contributing code to fix them.
What you’ll do
- Design and build automated monitoring systems to identify:
- data quality issues
- product bugs/regressions across the web application and data pipelines
- Write scripts/tooling to detect anomalies, inconsistencies, and failures in large datasets (e.g., malformed records, missing relationships, unexpected distributions).
- Prioritize issues with Product based on business impact, and implement fixes directly (not just file tickets).
- Develop and maintain automated test coverage (unit, integration, end-to-end), focusing on high-risk areas and data-heavy workflows.
- Collaborate with Engineering to review data models, API contracts, and backend logic for correctness and edge cases.
- Instrument quality metrics and build dashboards/tooling to track data health and product reliability.
- Support release readiness by running automated checks and surfacing risk areas with evidence/data.
Who you are
- 3+ years of engineering experience with a focus on quality, data integrity, or test automation.
- Strong Python skills for production-quality automation and data analysis.
- Experience working with large datasets, including SQL and/or NoSQL debugging/validation (Postgres/Elasticsearch preferred).
- Proven ability to build systems that discover new bugs/data issues, not just verify known behavior.
- Ability to read and contribute fixes to a production codebase (this is a code-writing role, not only test writing).
- Comfortable working independently and prioritizing a quality backlog by impact.
- Energized by ambiguity and able to move quickly using production logs and data exploration.
Nice to haves
- Experience with Django, Elasticsearch, or Vue.
- Familiarity with AWS.
