Role Overview

Quality Assurance Engineer II (Performance) focused on identifying and debugging application performance issues, validating systems across infrastructure configurations, and automating performance testing.

Responsibilities

  • Identify low to moderate priority performance issues in complex application environments (debug errors; parse logs and stack traces).
  • Reproduce complex issues by determining clear, step-by-step reproduction sequences.
  • Collaborate with other divisions (e.g., support, sales engineering) to stay current on Ignition performance and learn common customer setups across industries.
  • Debug multiple parts of the tech stack, including:
    • Web browser
    • Java applications
    • Mobile applications
  • Analyze resource usage and performance bottlenecks.
  • Use Wireshark for traffic filtering and packet analysis to troubleshoot network-related performance issues.
  • Use virtualization and infrastructure tooling to simulate production-like environments:
    • Docker, Vagrant, Terraform
  • Set up and query SQL databases (MS SQL Server, MySQL) to analyze data integrity and query performance.
  • Maintain proficient testing coverage across relevant Ignition product areas.
  • Collaborate with Developers, Product Managers, and QA Generalists to clarify requirements and provide feedback on functionality, usability, and performance.
  • Identify, document, and track defects via issue tracking tools, ensuring clear communication and resolution.
  • Keep testing approaches current with industry trends, tools, and technologies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science/Engineering, or at least 4 years of related experience.
  • 2+ years of experience in a performance-focused test automation engineering role.
  • Performance testing experience with at least one of:
    • JMeter
    • K6
    • Gatling
  • Experience with APM tools such as:
    • Grafana
    • Prometheus
  • Strong understanding of HTTP/HTTPS and REST APIs.
  • Strong programming knowledge in at least one language (including basic OOP, conditionals, functions), such as:
    • Python, Java/JavaScript, or C++
  • Strong troubleshooting skills: logs/stack traces, performance issue isolation, reproducible steps.
  • Experience coding in a modern IDE (Eclipse, IntelliJ IDEA, or PyCharm).
  • Familiarity with the SDLC and its phases.
  • Proficiency with Git and common source control workflows.
  • Experience setting up and querying SQL databases (MS SQL Server, MySQL, or similar).
  • Familiarity with Windows, Linux (Ubuntu), and macOS; debugging via command line and services.
  • Experience deploying and debugging using:
    • VMWare, Docker Desktop, Kubernetes
    • Creating images, debugging containers
    • Working with persistent data (volumes)
  • Experience with bug tracking systems and writing clear bug reports.

Nice to Have

  • Experience using agentic AI (not required).
