About the role
Role Overview
QA/QC Protection & Controls Engineer 2 provides quality assurance/quality control within the engineering team for protection and control systems used in high-voltage substations (typically 69kV to 500kV). The position verifies that designs meet regulatory standards, project requirements, and industry best practices.
Responsibilities
- QA/QC engineering design reviews for protection and control systems for transmission and distribution substations
- QA/QC protection scheme documentation, including:
- One-line diagrams
- Three-line diagrams
- Control schematics
- Wiring diagrams
- QA/QC protection and control drawings to ensure alignment with substation physical layout and design
- QA/QC control and relay panel layouts and review/assemble relevant specifications
- QA/QC design specifications, including the bill of materials (BOM)
- QA/QC sizing/design for auxiliary systems (e.g., AC/DC load centers, batteries, chargers)
- QA/QC sizing/design for conduit, cabling, and backup generators
- Review junior engineer designs, verify compliance with client standards/specifications, and identify gaps in protection
- Document QA/QC reviews, maintain record documents, and communicate findings to the team
Requirements
- 6+ years of relevant experience
- B.S. in Engineering or other technical degree
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) license: preferred but not required
- Driver’s license

- Ability to mentor junior staff through guidance and review of work products
- Experience collaborating on multidisciplinary teams and communicating with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Work Location / Flexibility
- Hybrid in: Overland Park, KS; Pittsburgh, PA; Lisle, IL; Orlando, FL
- Or fully remote option for eligible locations
