About the role

Role Overview

Join the Engineering & Technical Services team as an Accessibility Quality Assurance Engineer (QA Engineer), consulting for a major utility client. You will help ensure the quality, accessibility, and reliability of web-based applications by validating functionality, identifying defects, and confirming that enhancements meet technical standards and user expectations.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute test strategies, plans, and test cases covering: functionality, performance, security, accessibility, and reliability.
  • Perform manual testing for web-based applications against requirements and standards.
  • Validate accessibility compliance with Section 508 and WCAG 2.2, ensuring UX works for diverse user groups.
  • Identify, document, and track defects, including clear reproduction steps and ensuring timely resolution.
  • Collaborate with developers and business analysts to ensure requirements are testable and well understood.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies (sprint planning, backlog refinement, sprint reviews).
  • Monitor quality metrics and trends and provide recommendations to reduce defects and improve reliability.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of test cases, results, and quality metrics for reporting and transparency.

Requirements

  • 7+ years in software quality assurance/testing (enterprise or federal environments).
  • Manual testing experience for web-based applications.
  • Deep knowledge of accessibility standards, specifically Section 508 and WCAG 2.2.
  • Experience with Agile development and iterative delivery cycles.
  • Strong attention to detail: ability to identify, document, and track defects effectively.
  • Proficiency with test management/defect tracking tools such as Jira and TestRail (or similar).
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field.

Nice to Have

  • Experience testing APIs, system integrations, and data workflows.
  • Experience with compliance frameworks/standards.

Location / Work Model

  • Remote work with a preference for candidates based in Maryland, Virginia, or Washington, D.C. due to occasional on-site meetings.
