About the role

Role overview

QA Engineer focused on driving Quality Service across Sound Decisions’ products. You’ll help ensure products and services work as well as possible by leading quality assurance testing, validating functionality/usability, and building robust testing coverage as the business and product lines grow.

Responsibilities

Act as a “creative devil’s advocate” by finding design and product issues before customers do
Design and execute test plans for new and existing software (functionality + usability)
Create and maintain regression test plans to ensure existing features keep working as designed
Anticipate happy paths, non-happy paths, and edge cases
Debug issues to isolate and define error conditions
Define and document defects in detail so developers can recreate and resolve them
Retest resolved defects and partner with developers to ensure complete fixes
Prioritize feature testing and issue resolution
Document, report, and track defects using Jira and other tools
Produce management reports on issue/resolution statistics and trends
Monitor issue resolution progress to inform delivery estimates to implementation and customers
Learn and apply automated testing tools; build and execute automated application testing plans
Support development with defect recreation and resolution options
Perform smoke testing on new products/features to support design decisions
Collaborate with product on alternate solutions and enhancements
Align test plans with real customer usage; coordinate with Implementation and Support to keep teams informed

Requirements

5+ years experience as a software QA tester for API- and non-API driven software
Strong problem-solving and attention to detail across different user perspectives (end users, engineering, leadership)
Ability to dig deep into details while also assessing scalable processes at a higher level
Strong communication skills with technical and non-technical stakeholders
Ability to work independently and collaboratively

Nice-to-haves / assets

Experience with project tracking tools (e.g., Jira)
Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git or Mercurial)
Familiarity with automated testing tools (explicitly expected to learn and use)
